Terms.
Last updated 27 September 2026
These terms cover this website and buying and using Stoic Player, a video player for Mac. They're written to match how the product actually works, not as boilerplate. The End-user licence covers what you may do with the app itself.
Buying Stoic
- Stoic is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Checkout is run by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record: they process your payment, handle sales tax or VAT, and issue your receipt. We never see or store your card details.
- After payment you receive a licence key, shown on screen and emailed to the address you used at checkout. One licence activates Stoic on up to three Macs at a time, and you can move it between Macs from Stoic’s Settings.
- Your purchase includes every feature and every Stoic update we release.
- Refunds follow our Refund policy. A refunded or charged-back licence is deactivated on every Mac it was used on.
What you need
Stoic runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. It is signed with our Developer ID and notarised by Apple. Activation needs an internet connection; after that, Stoic re-checks the licence about once a week and keeps working offline for up to 45 days at a time.
Warranty and liability
We work hard to make Stoic reliable, and we fix what’s reported, but it is provided “as is,” without warranties beyond those the law requires. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for anything arising from Stoic is limited to the amount you paid for it. None of this limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be excluded.
Licensing of bundled components
Stoic uses an LGPL-licensed build of FFmpeg, built without GPL or non-free components and linked dynamically, together with other open-source libraries under their own licences. Their licence texts are included in the app, and the rights those licences give you are described in the EULA.
Third-party media and services
If you use “Open Network URL” or online subtitle search, you’re connecting directly to an address or service you specify (see Privacy). You’re responsible for having the right to access whatever you point Stoic at; we don’t operate those services and aren’t a party to your use of them.
Acceptable use
Stoic is built for playing video you have the right to view. Don’t use it, or this site, to infringe anyone’s rights. Stoic doesn’t play DRM-protected streaming services.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version is dated here and applies to purchases made after that date. Questions: see Contact.
